Breeder’s Conference sponsored by VDD-GNA Midwest North June 10, 2017
This seminar will be especially useful for all GNA and
JGHV breeders as well as those that may be considering breeding in the future.
* 10:00 am – The Sporting Dog –
Structure and Movement – given by Mike Schell, senior performance, breed show
judge and GNA Heartland Chapter Breed Warden with more than 25 years’
experience evaluating the sporting dog as a breeder and judge. His dogs have
gained national recognition, combining all the attributes of the versatile
athlete, including sound structure and movement. Mike spent a career working
for the Illinois Dept. of Natural Resources and is, of course, an avid hunter.
* 1:00 pm – Practical advice for the
practical breeder and what's next on the future of genetic testing. Dr. Jim Wood, Chief Medical Director, Glen Lake Animal Hospital.
Jim is a graduate of Iowa State Veterinary School with a broad background in
veterinary medicine including years spent in referral surgical practice and a
concentration in canine dentistry. He has a special interest in the challenges
that confront the sporting dog. Jim is also an avid hunter spending as much
time afield as his practice allows with his 2 Drahthaar,
Lexy and Belle.
* 3:00 pm – Canine Fertility –
Problems and Solutions – Frances O Smith, DVM, PhD became a Diplomate
of the College of Theriogenology in 1986. Since that
time she has been in private practice as a small animal practitioner
specializing in canine reproduction. Dr. Smith is the only board certified theriogenologist in private practice. Her expertise in
genetic counseling, chilled and frozen semen and reproductive infertility of
the male and female canine are known throughout the United States. She competes
in hunt tests, conformation dog shows, obedience trials and occasionally field
trials….and she is an approved hunt test judge.
